Welcome to the Dept. of Radiologic Sciences
Since its inception in 1976, the Department of Radiologic Sciences has provided a quality radiologic sciences degree program with a sustained emphasis upon graduating competent and compassionate healthcare professionals. In so doing, our graduates are prepared to practice their profession in the often complex and global society.
The Radiologic Sciences programs are designed to provide students with enhanced career opportunities in radiology as administrators, educators, and advanced imaging specialists. The curriculum provides a broad education in liberal arts and basic sciences and an in-depth study in radiologic sciences. Educational opportunities in diagnostic imaging and advanced imaging modalities such as mammography, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), vascular radiography, computed tomography (CT), radiology administration, ultrasound, and radiation therapy are offered.
The department has four energized radiographic laboratories equipped with phantoms, imaging accessories, and traditional x-ray equipment for student learning experiences. A fifth laboratory offers opportunity to practice radiographic equipment manipulation. The University of South Çàɬֱ²¥ has a state-of-the-art simulation lab where students learn, practice, and demonstrate a number of patient care skills prior to actually performing those in the patient care environment.
The Department of Radiologic Sciences offers a traditional Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Sciences degree program for those seeking a first or second degree program. For those who hold ARRT-approved associates or bachelor’s degrees, the dept. offers several programs including 1) a Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Sciences degree program, 2) an online Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Sciences degree program, and 3) certification or continuing education opportunities in advanced imaging modalities. The Department of Radiologic Sciences offers a traditional Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Sciences with the opportunity to study diagnostic radiography and an advanced modality including mammography, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and vascular radiography.
This traditional Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Sciences degree program is designed
for:
- Students with a high school diploma seeking a first bachelor’s degree.
- Students with a bachelor’s degree in any field other than Radiography seeking a second
degree.
A new cohort enters the radiography program as a junior each fall semester. At the end of the first year in the professional component (junior year - summer semester), students will select from three specialization tracks to complete: (1) advanced modality to include CT, MRI, Vascular, or Mammography, (2) ultrasound, or (3) radiation therapy. It is important to note that admission to the various modalities may be limited to the availability of clinical rotation sites. Therefore, students will be asked to rank their first, second, and third preference of tracks and modalities.

This traditional Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Sciences degree program is designed
for:

- Students with a bachelor’s degree in any field other than Radiography seeking a second
degree.
A new cohort enters the radiography program as a junior each fall semester. At the end of the first year in the professional component (junior year - summer semester), students will select from three specialization tracks to complete: (1) advanced modality to include CT, MRI, Vascular, or Mammography, (2) ultrasound, or (3) radiation therapy. - Registered Radiographers who do not have a baccalaureate degree.
- Registered Radiographers who have a baccalaureate degree in a major other than Radiologic Sciences, but choose to seek a second baccalaureate degree in Radiologic Sciences.
The professional component consists of 1 semester of a bridge course (Summer) and 3 semesters (Fall, Spring, and Summer) of didactic (classroom) and clinical study in Radiologic Sciences. Students accepted into the program may select from the 3 tracks (4 options) listed below for the professional component of the program.
- Track 1 Option 1: Two advanced imaging modalities (Mammography, MRI, Vascular Radiography, or CT).
- Track 1 Option 2: One advanced imaging modality (Mammography, MRI, Vascular Radiography, or CT) AND Radiology Administration
- Track 2: Ultrasound Only
- Track 3: Radiation Therapy Only
The Online RT to Bachelor of Science program is designed for:
- Registered Radiographers without a baccalaureate degree who are searching for an online B.S. in Radiologic Sciences program.
- Registered Radiographers who have a baccalaureate degree in a major other than Radiologic Sciences, but seek a second baccalaureate degree in Radiologic Sciences that is completely online.
The online option for the Bridge Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Sciences is only available for the Computed Tomography (CT) and Radiology Administration combination. The professional component consists of 1 semester of a bridge course (Summer) and 3 semesters (Fall, Spring, and Summer) of virtual didactic study in Radiologic Sciences.
- Registered Radiographers who wish to study an advanced imaging modality as a means of continuing education.
- Registered Radiographers who already hold a baccalaureate degree in a major other than Radiologic Sciences and choose to study an advanced imaging modality, without earning a second baccalaureate degree.
The advanced imaging modalities include Mammography, Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Vascular Radiography, Radiology Administration, Ultrasound, and Radiation Therapy.
